July 12, 2026 – As selective colleges finalize their Class of 2030 enrollment data, newly compiled early admission statistics for the 2025-2026 admissions cycle confirm that early decision (ED) applicants continue to enjoy substantially higher acceptance rates compared to regular decision pools at many elite institutions, according to data aggregated by IvyWise and other admissions consulting firms.
While comprehensive official data for all Ivy League schools remains incomplete—Harvard notably did not release its admissions data for the Class of 2030—available figures show the persistent strategic advantage of binding early decision applications. According to IvyWise's analysis, some institutions reported ED acceptance rates that were two to three times higher than their overall admission rates for the same cycle.
The data compilation reveals that for the Class of 2030, early decision applicants at selective non-Ivy institutions also benefited from this admissions edge. The University of Virginia, for example, reported a 32% Early Decision acceptance rate from 3,466 ED applicants, according to Prepory's analysis. This pattern aligns with CollegeVine's finding that, on average, students applying ED see a 1.6x (or 60%) increase in their chances of admission to very selective schools.
Admissions experts note that while early decision has long provided an admissions advantage, the gap appears to be stabilizing rather than widening in recent cycles. The strategic importance of early application rounds remains a critical consideration for students targeting highly selective colleges, particularly as overall acceptance rates at elite institutions continue their downward trajectory.
